Become a School Trustee

The Red Deer Public School Board wants to raise the profile of the October 21, 2013 school board elections.

"We are encouraging people to think about running for office.  As a trustee, you will be serving your community through education, a very honourable position." said board chair Lawrence Lee. "And we want to make sure people get out and vote on election day."

Lee pointed out the school board manages millions of tax dollars, employs hundreds of people and is responsible for educating more than 10,000 students.

Election information is available on the district website at

  • School board elections take place October 21, 2013.
  • Candidates must file their nomination papers September 23, 2013.

"Having a broad spectrum of people serving on school boards ensures all perspectives are considered as we make decisions about our schools and for our community. That’s why we want to encourage people to think about running," said Lee.

Voting in the school board election is also important because the decisions school boards make affect the community’s economic, social and cultural life.

"Our decisions have a tremendous impact on the local community. Whether you have children in school or not, we encourage you to take an interest in choosing the people who will represent the diverse views and interests of the community."
